Shanta “The Grindaholic” Lana Hereford
After surviving a
near-death car accident in June 2012, Ms. Shanta Lana Hereford knew
God had a much bigger plan in store for her. However, she did not
know it would be this big! Now, Ms. Hereford, who likes to be called
by her first name, is the President for the newly formed Atlanta Music Association & Academy for Performing Arts. At age
9, Shanta began recording in her hometown of S. Beloit IL/Beloit WI
with her cousins Rick Flowers as Producer and Louise Hereford-Purifoy
as a vocal coach. By age 15, she had relocated to Minneapolis MN,
where she actively pursued a singing career winning various talents
shows including one against R&B group "Next" and even
opening up for "MC Lyte". She was the voice behind
countless jingles at KMOJ, Minneapolis's only urban station under the
direction of JR Maddox. Her debut came in 1996 when she was featured
on two songs on Minneapolis rap legend "Kaos" CD titled,"
Hustler's Convention" which had incredible independent success
under Di Bomb Records.
In 1997, she moved
back to Beloit Wisconsin where she helped form Borderline
Entertainment, an independent hip hop label and operated a mix show
on the local college station. In 1999, she was the organizer the
first-ever Unity Jam and worked as an on-air personality "Sapphire"
on Hot 107.5 in Janesville WI. In 2001, she filled in as an organizer
of Beloit's Juneteenth celebration and organized a successful
fundraiser to send an area youth to Washington DC. That same year
Shanta co-founded "Thumbs Up Entertainment" an
independent record label and recording studio complex and opened up a
kid's clothing store "The Kid's Closet". Over time through
her managing and marketing efforts working with label and indie
artists, Shanta developed major industry contacts with Jive, Arista
and other major record labels negotiating deals. However, Thumbs Up
Entertainment dissolved in 2003 and Shanta went on to be President of
Marketing at Floroq Enterprises in Madison WI until opening up a
restaurant and lounge in Beloit WI named after her mother "Rose's".
In 2008, Shanta
decided to leave the restaurant business to her Mother and relocated
her and her three children to Atlanta GA. Upon arriving, Shanta
worked three jobs until she started her own consulting business
"Great Results Consulting" in March 2009 training aspiring
entrepreneurs how to start nonprofits, designing websites, and more.
In late 2009 an aspiring artist named "Iris Isoa" contacted
Shanta for a website and by no coincidence needed management.
The two connected and Shanta and music were reunited! It was not long
before others took notice of Shanta's passion and drive. From 2010
until June 2012 Shanta worked with countless indie and
celebrity artists in and outside of the Atlanta area promoting Flyer
Promo Now magazine, music, events and more.
Over the past year,
Shanta has spent her time recovering, reflecting, planning and
praising God for her new life! Although still struggling with
physical limitations, With God's guidance Shanta has managed to overcome all adversities
including divorce and homelessness.
"Initially
I was asked to head up an Atlanta Chapter for The Black Music
Association & Academy of America, and began organizing events here
on the organization's behalf. However, prior to the event I was informed
that they were not in a financial position to fully support our chapter
as propositioned; which resulted in my cutting my ties with that
organization and stepping out on my own with the supporters I have. I am
very excited about this award show not only because it is totally mine
but also because I know that it will be even better than the initial
show planned for Dec 1 at Center Stage Theatre. We have more sponsors
participating and a whole lot of interest has been expressed about our
upcoming event." states President, Shanta Lana Hereford.
